The Humane Society of Delaware County has set Saturday, Sept. 14 as the date for this year’s Woofs & Wags Dog Walk, and plans call for more fun than ever before. The fun-raising event theme chosen by organizers is “Were-woofs & Vam-purrs” and participants will celebrate Transylvania style to help dogs and cats find their forever homes!
The power packed event runs less than three hours, from 11:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on site at the Humane Society in Delhi. But in that short time, highlights will include, Full Moon Café: Come Grab a Bite!, Count Cat-ula Cat Tent, Wildlife Education, Monster Mash Dash Contest, Batty-est Dog Tricks Contest, Best Costume Contest, Paw-lm Reading & Fortune Telling, with Music All Day by Chet Delameter
Participants are invited to dress themselves and their canine companions in creative theme costumes for the walk, but reminded to leave the scary masks at home as some dogs react badly when frightened. There will be two special presentations during the event; one by Wolf Mountain Nature Center and one by Friends of the Feathered and Furry Wildlife Center.
The annual Woofs and Wags Dog Walk is one of three major events staged each year by the Heart of the Catskills, which has served the region and its pets for more than half a century. In addition to paying a small entry fee, participants are invited to download pledge cards from the website and solicit support and donations from friends and family before they head over to the shelter for the walk.
Funds raised help support the shelter and care for the animals and awareness raised helps encourage adoptions. While all are strongly invited to attend, anyone considering an adoption at this time will be especially welcome and will have an opportunity to learn more about the support services offered to adoptive families.
