Ruth T. Roney of Kingston, NY died peacefully Tuesday, May 21, 2019. She had been living in Kingston from 2014 – 2018 and was residing at Golden Hill Nursing Facility for the past year.

Ruth Angeline Todd was born February 6, 1920, in Roxbury NY. the daughter of Leland and Nellie Todd. She attended Oneonta State Teachers College and first started teaching in a one-room schoolhouse in Union Grove where the Pepacton Reservoir now stands. She married John W. Roney in 1946 and together they raised four children in Andes NY. Later she taught fourth grade in the Andes and Margaretville School Districts. Many students remembered her fondly decades after her having retired in 1982.

She and her husband dedicated their lives and were baptized in 1972 as Jehovah’s Witnesses. In the early eighties, she played the piano at the Thursday and Sunday meetings. Together they enjoyed calling on friends and neighbors about their faith.

Ruth has always been known for her love of horses. She and her sister enjoyed riding and sleigh riding in Roxbury, NY. and several years later she and her father introduced her children to the joy of riding. We cannot wait to see her doing the things she loved when the Bible’s promise of a paradise earth will be a reality.

She is predeceased by her husband John W. and son Timothy James. She has a surviving sister Edith Rodrigo from Whitesboro, NY, surviving children John T. Roney and wife Nancy, Pamela Roney, and Ted Roney and wife Karen. She has five married grandchildren; Patrick, Brian, Brenda, Terah and Dana and several great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2019, at the Arkville Kingdom Hall, 42710 State Hwy 28, Arkville, NY 12406
