It is with great sadness that the family of Michael Reidlinger, “Reidy,” announces his passing from ALS on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at the age of 58 years. Michael will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 28 years, Dawn, his son Brendan, his mother Patricia (Fredericks) Reidlinger, his sister Patty Schick, his brother Charlie and sister-in-law Whitney Reidlinger, his mother- and father-in-law Clyde and Barbara Heermance, his brother- and sister-in-law Brian and Penny Heermance, his nieces Sarah and Meghan Schick and Elle Reidlinger, and his nephews Bradley and Matthew Heermance. Michael was predeceased by his father Francis “Frank” Reidlinger, and by his brother-in-law Al Schick.

Michael was born in Manhattan, NY on December 5, 1960. He was raised in Glendale and Farmingdale, NY. He graduated with a BA from SUNY Oswego and an MA from SUNY Oneonta. He started his teaching career as a shared-services art teacher at Roxbury, Windham, and Stamford Central Schools, eventually becoming the fulltime high school art teacher at Roxbury Central School. For 35 years he was also a lifeguard with the Jones Beach Lifeguard Corps, working primarily at Hither Hills State Park in Montauk, NY.

Michael was kind, humble, creative, free-spirited, optimistic, and joyful. His passions were many: having fun with family and friends, playing guitar, throwing pottery on the wheel, playing sports of all kinds, surfing, snowboarding, supporting the NY Mets and NY Knicks through thick and (mostly) thin, fixing hopelessly broken things, spending as much time as possible outdoors, learning new things, and teaching, coaching and nurturing his students. Although his life was not long, he lived it well, and with grace, positivity and love.

Donations in Michael’s memory may be made to The ALS Association, PO Box 37022, Boone, IA 50037-0022 or to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 297 River Street Service Road, Oneonta, NY 13820.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury NY.
