Local students earn college honors

Several local area students have earned Dean’s List honors at the colleges they attend according to announcement from those schools.

Vanessa Oravetz, the daughter of Robert and Ruth Oravetz of New Kingston scored a perfect 4.0 grade point average in the Fall, 2018 semester at SUNY Oneonta to earn Provost’s List honors at the school. One of just 227 students so named, Oravetz was a 2016 graduate of Margaretville Central School where she also earned academic honors, travelled to Portugal and Spain with the travel club and was a member of the National Honor Society in addition to participation in many other school activities.

Cora Bruno, a 2015 Graduate of Margaretville Central School was recently named to Dean’s List at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences for the Fall 2018 Semester. The honor is awarded to students who have successfully completed their course work with a semester grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 score. Bruno, who was a stand-out athlete during her years at MCS also excelled as a member of the college soccer team. The daughter of Jeff and Milissa Bruno of Margaretville, Bruno was a member of the National Honors Society, the Scitimard Society and a class officer in addition to participation in many other school activities.

Lacey Stewart a 2015 Roxbury Central School grad earned Dean’s List honors at SUNY Oneonta for the Fall 2018 semester. There too, students were required to earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher while carrying a course load of 12 hours or more. Stewart, the daughter of Ellen and Bob Stewart of Roxbury and the granddaughter of Gloria Stewart, was also an honor student and athlete in high school and travelled with her classmates to England, France and Italy.
