Jean Frances (Farrell) Millar was born on July 10, 1921 and died on July 6, 2019. Jean was predeceased by her husband, Kevin G. Millar, sons Peter and Edmund C. Millar and her daughter Jean St. John. Jean was also predeceased by her brother John Farrell, sisters Rosemary Hand and Patricia Driscoll. Jean is survived by her sons, Kevin J. and Andrew T. Millar (Kate), and daughters, Maureen Millar and Anne Rajs as well as seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Carol White and Anne Bergen.
Jean grew up in the Bronx, NYC, attended Hunter College and graduated from the Bellevue Hospital School of Nursing. She practiced nursing for many years. Jean and her family lived in Levittown, NY in the late 1940’s and moved to Paramus, NJ in 1952 where she raised seven children. She and her husband bought Roxbury Distributing and moved to Roxbury in 1966. Jean always had a keen interest in antiques and was often seen at the Roberts Auction Barn in Fleischmanns and in later years ran an antique store in Roxbury. Jean was also interested in gardening and was an active reader who kept a list of books to be read at hand.
Jean was eager to learn about all things and traveled widely. She visited Ireland, Germany, Mexico, Morocco, the Netherlands, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, and Spain as well as Alaska, California and Wyoming and did white water river rafting in Colorado.
Jean enjoyed life and shared that joy with those around her.
Jean was active in her community and served as Chair of the Roxbury Town Planning Board for many years. She was especially proud of initiating subdivision regulations in Roxbury to allow for orderly development. Jean also served on the Roxbury Library Board of Directors for many years.
Jean was cared for by her daughter Maureen in her Mt. Tremper home for the last five years. The family would like to thank Denise Tripp, Julie Marcus, and Marilyn Anderson for their long and loving care for Jean in Mt. Tremper.
Services are being arranged by the Miller Funeral Home in Roxbury and will be held in Roxbury at the Barn Pavilion in Kirkside Park on Saturday, July 13 at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Roxbury Library.
