Janet Ruth Vermilyea, 79, of Dry Brook Rd., Arkville, NY went home to our Heavenly Father on Saturday, March 30, 2019 after her courageous fight with cancer, which she did with grace & dignity.

Born in Canada Hollow, Town of Andes, on Sept. 30, 1939, Janet was the daughter of Beatrice (Fairbairn) Taylor & William Elliot Taylor. As a young child Janet loved being with her family and working alongside her father on the farm. She graduated from Margaretville Central School in 1958, and on July 13 of that year she married the love of her life, Edwin John Vermilyea, at the Advent Christian Church in Margaretville. Together they shared 60 plus loving years and built their life together on Dry Brook Rd. in Arkville.

Janet, a devout Christian, loved her Heavenly Father and lived a Christian life daily. She was a life-long member of the Advent Christian Church and enjoyed her church family. She was also a member of the New Kingston Valley Grange. Janet loved being a wife/ mother/grandmother and took pride in being a homemaker, but her most cherished accomplishment was being a “Grammy.” Janet was always busy in her gardens and took comfort in the beauty of all the nature that surrounded her. She enjoyed reading, quilting, and crocheting. She was never too busy to lend a hand or give her love and wisdom to anyone who needed her. She would welcome all in their home with loving arms and enjoyed cooking, baking and having a crowd around the kitchen table.

Janet is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Edwin, her son John and his wife Elizabeth, daughter Vicky and her husband Kelly, her beloved grand-children Taylor & Jacob (who were the lights of her life). She is also survived by sister Thelma Ruff, sister-in-law Georgia Taylor, brother-in-law John McMurray, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear, dear friends. She was predeceased by her brother David Taylor, brother-in-law William Ruff, and sister-in-law Lois McMurray.

Janet blessed all whose lives she touched. Please join us for a Celebration of Life on Saturday, May 18 at 1:00 p.m. in the Advent Christian Church, 109 Maple Street, Margaretville. In lieu of flowers consider a donation in her memory to:
