To the Editor:
Independence Day (July 4th) is upon us. America has reached another mile stone in our history; however, will this be our last celebration? Our Republic is under siege – not from foreign powers; but from within.
Our Founding Fathers, I am sure are rolling over in their graves. Our history, culture, values, tradition and even our Constitution/Bill of Rights are under attack. Political correctness seems to be running rampant. One can’t obliterate the past. Our past, even with the mistakes we made, resulted in America being what it is today – a great nation.
“We the people,” have let our values and tradition wither away. Remember, freedom is only one generation from extinction. The quote from JFK is even more relevant today than it was when he spoke these famous words: “Ask not what your country can do for you; but, what you can do for your country.” As true American’s we need to stand up for our nation and ourselves.
What has happen to individual responsibility and accountability? Where is our motto of a ‘day’s work for a day’s pay;” the pride and accomplishment of working hard and making something of yourself, by your own efforts and accomplishments; the pride and respect for our country.
An outspoken minority, now believe it is the duty of government at all levels, to take care of us from birth to the grave. We should sit back and expect someone else to foot the bill. Some believe we should become a society of entitlements or even worse a socialist country. Folks, nothing in life is free. It has its costs; not only in monetary value but in our moral integrity.
We became a free nation because we were unique. Generations before us gave their lives for our democratic republic. Our Declaration of Independence and Constitution/ Bill of Rights were our founding principles which made us great. No one is forcing anyone to stay in our country. If our country is so bad, then why are foreigners desperately trying to come here? God bless the U.S.A.
