The holiday season is such a busy one for everyone, celebrations, shopping, wrapping, and baking. As we prepare, it is important to remember those who struggle to make the holidays affordable. With this in mind, the Community Christmas Project for the Roxbury School District is preparing.
About fifty area families will receive turkeys with all the trimmings along with other staples such as cereal, bread, peanut butter and jelly, fresh fruit, home-baked cookies, and more. Twenty-four senior households will receive boxes tailored to their needs and the Girl Scouts will deliver bags of fruit, cookies, and free lunch certificates to the residents of the Grand Gorge apartments. Donations have been sent to Robinson Terrace and Mountainside Residential Center for their activity funds. Finally, we will open our “Free Toy Store” with gifts, donated and purchased, for parents to choose from.
When the holiday season is over and we all get back to normal, the aid fund carries a balance that can be used to help families with medical and dental expenses, utilities, eyeglasses, rent, and other unforeseen expenses throughout the year.
All of this costs money and your contributions make it all possible. Donations should be made payable to The Community Aid Fund and sent c/o Bonnie Walker at 489 Al Pekrul Road, Roxbury, NY 12474.
Thank you sincerely,
Bonnie Walker, Chair
