Antonia Budin passed peacefully at noon time Sunday, March 10 at home, holding the hand of her beloved son Dave. She was three days shy of her 97th birthday.
Ann, as she was known to most, was born Antonia Kotansky in Watervliet, NY on March 13, 1922.
Antonia married George Budin, who worked for New York Telephone. They lived in Albany, Syracuse and Suffern, NY. They divorced in 1975. She went to live with her son, Dave, assisting him running the gun shop, Del-Sports, Inc. in Margaretville. Before the age of computers Antonia sold and filled out thousands of paper fishing and hunting licenses. She made many friends and repeat customers, with her happy way of doing things.
Antonia loved to travel with her son, Dave while he represented the Swarovski/ Kahles rifle scope companies from Austria. She particularly loved Dave’s annual salmon fishing trips to the Margaree River in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. She also enjoyed car rides along the many Catskill streams and rivers and reading in the car while Dave fly-fished.
She was predeceased by her two sons, Paul and George. Antonia is survived by her son, Dave of Margaretville and daughter, Anne of Glenmont, NY.
“Mom” devoted most of her life taking care of her son Dave and his shop, Del-Sports, Inc. She was very active both physically and mentally until having a heart attack last October. A better Mom a son could never wish for. There are very few like Antonia, and she will be missed a lot.
In line with Antonia’s wishes there in be no services.
Care is entrusted to Hynes Funeral Home Margaretville.
A special thank you to Dr. Gregory Xanthaky for keeping her healthy and going, to everyone at Catskill Area Hospice and to Kellie Sullivan and Helen de Stefanis of Kaatskill Eldercare for bringing her comfort and joy to Antonia’s final months and days.
