German-American Club presents awards

Three area high school seniors were recently awarded $500 scholarships from the German-American Club of the Northern Catskills, Inc.  Jessica Plance and Lorenz Kottmeier, both from Delaware Academy in Delhi, each received a $500 Mones-Diedolf Scholarship.  This scholarship is only offered in 2012 in memory Lorraine Mones and Bob Diedolf who were dedicated club members.

Both students excelled in the study of German. Jessica is planning to attend Rochester Institute of Technology majoring in photojournalism.  Lorenz is heading to Fordham University to study International Political Economy. The third $500 scholarship went to Alexi Boice from Roxbury Central School.  Alexi has been accepted to the College of St. Rose in Albany to study Business.

The club generally offers two scholarships per year.  The study of German is required for only one of them.  Applications are sent to area high school guidance departments in February with a May deadline. If a school offers German, applications are sent directly to the German teacher.
