Catskill Scenic Byway Initiative sponsors art show at CWC

Margaretville — The organizers of the Catskill Valley Scenic Byway Initiative are pleased to announce the opening reception for an art exhibit to benefit the Catskill Valley Scenic Byway Initiative on Friday, June 1 from 5-7:30 p.m., at Catskill Watershed Corporation (CWC), 905 Main St., Margaretville, NY.
Art works will be on display for the month of June and may be viewed weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., or by appointment, call 607 363-2752.

The show is a celebration of outdoor scenes along Route 30 in Delaware County, as portrayed through paintings by the East Branch Delaware River Plein Air Painters, aerial photographs by Corneel Verlaan and works by other guest artists. The plein air painters include Oneida Hammond, Margaret Leveson, Sumiko Patrone, Alix Hallman Travis, Linda Webb Varian and Ellen Wong. Plein air painting means painting in the open air, directly from the subject, in sunshine, shadows, and sometimes even in rain. The aerial views show the diversity of the terrain and several of the towns along Route 30’s span.

The byway encompasses a 71-mile stretch of Route 30 in Delaware County, following the East Branch of the Delaware River from Grand Gorge to Hancock, passing through five townships, each offering its own natural beauty and vital combination of new and old.
All art will be auctioned at the end of the summer, with proceeds split between the Byway Initiative and the artists. Byway proceeds will be used for mapping the byway and its resources and for necessary consultant services.
