Marian Fiedler, 86, formerly of Cobleskill, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2008 at the Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center, surrounded by her family.
She was born in New York, NY on August 1, 1921, a daughter of the late John D. and Dorothy (Martin) Dunhoff.
Mrs. Fiedler retired from the Conneiquot School District in Ronkonkoma after teaching elementary school for 27 years. She was a member of the New York State Retired Teachers‚Äô Association and most recently a communicant of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Cobleskill.
Marian was, above all, a mother. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest joy and proudest accomplishment. Marian had a gift for teaching and remained a teacher throughout her life. The lessons she taught of kindness, generosity and faith will live on in all who knew her. In addition to her family, Marian loved music, dancing, dogs, singing and talking. She had the ‚Äúgift of gab,‚Äù as she used to say. She loved swimming in the Long Island Sound and days on the sunny beach. She loved going out to eat and had a certain affinity for McDonald‚Äôs fish sandwiches. She was an amazing woman. Her vibrance, love and spirit will be sorely missed, always treasured and never forgotten.
Marian was married to William Fiedler, Sr. on August 21, 1948. He predeceased her in 1998.
Surviving are a daughter, Susan Hains (Stephen), Nassau; son, William Fiedler, Jr. (Delia), Margaretville; granddaughters, Sarah DiFazio (Robert), Dalton, MA, Rebecca Hains, Albany, Season Fiedler, Margaretville; grandsons, Matthew Hains, Albany, Lucas Fiedler, Dover, NH and William Fiedler, Margaretville. Also surviving are great-grandchildren, Madeline Elise DiFazio and Collin William Fiedler; a sister, Betty Boudreau (Joseph), Saratoga Springs; a niece and two nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Washington Avenue, Cobleskill with Father Thomas Holmes as celebrant.
A calling hour will be from 11-12 prior to the mass, at the church. Cremation wil take place at Vale Cemetery, Schenectady and burial of the cremains will be in the Saratoga National Cemetery. Family and friends are also invited to attend a memorial service for Marian, Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 2 p.m. at the Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center, 2256 Burdett Avenue, Troy.
