Miracle on Main Street slated for Phoenicia on Saturday

By Joan Lawrence-Bauer

The Phoenicia Business Association and the Phoenicia Fire District have joined forces to create Miracle on Main Street, a community holiday event with a host of activities throughout the day and early evening on Saturday. The highlight of the day is expected to be the tree lighting ceremony scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at the Ice Cream Station at 76 Main Street.

Festivities get underway at 10:00 a.m. when volunteers gather to decorate the town’s historic Phoenicia Railway Station. A fun-filled work party will help set the stage for later events during the holiday season. At Noon the Phoenicia Library hosts an annual open house. Uncle Rock will put on a family concert and cupcakes will be served between Noon and 2:00 p.m. Throughout the day other businesses will offer special holiday cheer and Chrisitan Smythe will be the Master of Ceremonies for the Tree Lighting, which will also feature musical performances, a tree-topper by local artist Jenna Byer and a Lantern Walk to a Party at Parish Hall and of course, Santa will arrive on Main Street in a fire truck.

The Party at Parish Hall gets underway at 6:00 p.m. and features face painting, a Kid’s Christmas Craft Table, complimentary food and beverages, cupcake decorating by Craig’s Custom Creations. For the kids, the best part may be the pictures with Santa and fun surprises during the party.

To add a layer of excitement, one lucky child (12 or under) will get to star with Santa in the tree-lighting that kicks off the night. A raffle is being conducted to choose the lucky winner and all proceeds from the raffle will go to support the Phoenicia Volunteer Fire Department. Tickets may be purchased at Tender Land Home, Phoenicia Diner, The Nest Egg or Melange. For more information on the event, email phoeniciabusinessassociatio @aol.com

To keep the holiday spirit going, the Empire State Railway Museum will partner with the Phoenicia Business Association for a holiday party at the train station on Saturday, Dec. 15. The event gets underway at 1:30 and is great for every generation in the family. Scale model trains will be running and Mr. and Mrs. Claus will be on hand with goodies and surprises.
