Students head back to school next week

Many new faces on local faculties as new year starts

Summer vacation officially ends next week when area schools open for the 2018-19 academic year.


Opening day at Margaretville Central School (MCS) will be Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 8:10 a.m.

The school will host its annual Open House the following evening on Thursday, Sept. 6 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

MCS will be welcoming six new members to its instructional staff: Math, Chad Richards and Erin Cure; Science, Larry Leung; Fifth grade, Kim Smith; Fourth grade, Ainsley Pilz; Music, Raina Corbine; School nurse, Heather Witte.

Meal prices will be breakfast $1.25 and lunch $2.25.


Classes at Roxbury Central School (RCS) get underway on Tuesday, Sept. 4 at 8 a.m.

There will be plenty of new faces at RCS for the new school year. Staff additions include: Chemistry teacher, Brian Kuhnau; 7-12 Math/STEM teacher, Rene Giuditta; 7-12 Spanish instructor, Mary Ann Orin; Special Education instructor, Yvette Goldman; Licensed Teaching Assistants, Robyn Vamosy, Rachel Andrews and Nelta Miller; Teachers’ Aide, Beth Cleveland; Cafeteria Worker/Teachers’ Aide, Holly- Anne Bresee; Custodian, Christopher Shultis and Bus Driver, Sharon Buckler.

The student price for breakfast is $1.30 and the lunch price is $2.50.

RCS is planning an Open House is Monday, Oct. 1 with the time to be determined.


The first day of classes at Andes Central School (ACS) will be Tuesday, Sept. 4 starting at 8 a.m. Faculty and staff will report for conference days on Wednesday and Thursday, August 29 and 30.

New staff as ACS this year will include: Dean of Students/ CSE Chairperson, Jackie Frederick and Teachers’ Aide/Athletic Director, Katie Pardee.

Meal prices for students are $1.25 for breakfast and $2.25 for lunch.

The Fall Open House is set for Thursday, Oct. 18 from 6:30-8 p.m.
