Richard “Dick” Lutz

Richard Frederick Lutz, 91 passed away on April 2, 2018.

He was born on March 8, 1927 in Roxbury to Lena and Frederick Lutz. His siblings were Edna and Herbert (more affectionately known as Deak). He was educated at Roxbury Central School. He served in the Untied States Navy during World War II from 1945-1946.

On October 26, 1952 Dick married the music teacher of Roxbury Central School, Marjorie Webster. They had two sons, Steven and Robert. Following his stint in the military, Dick returned to Roxbury and worked as a building contractor. He built more than 100 homes in the Margaretville, Roxbury and Stamford area.

In November of 1958 Dick formed Lutz Feed Company. In 1976, when the railroad stopped running in Roxbury he moved the operation to Oneonta. Lutz Feed continues to operate in its third generation. He served many years on the Board of Directors for the National Bank of Roxbury, and D and O Railroad, and Co-operative Feed Dealers. His passions were work and his workshop.

Dick was intelligent, industrious, ambitious, and a mentor, a thinker and visionary. He enjoyed a good road trip with friends, and his drink “stiff.”

Dick is survived by children Steven and Nancy Lutz, Robert and Stephanie Lutz, grandchildren Sarah and Jason Ramos, Blake and Nicole Lutz, Kurt Lutz and Nick and Donna Lutz; great grandchildren Addilee Lutz, Dakota Lutz, Kenzie Lutz and Grant Lutz.

Services for Dick will be held in his shop at a later date. Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury is assisting the family with the arrangements.
