Locals support fire victims

Fire.  It's the word no one wants to hear - especially at their home.  For Becky Peters and Jerry Fronckowiak, the word hit home in a devastating way when a fire in their Halcottsville home took everything.  They've landed on their feet, thanks to the love and support of locals like Scott Gray and Nicole Day Gray who spearheaded a chicken bar-b-que last weekend to help the couple.  True to form, the Gray's pulled off a successful event.

But many in the community didn't even realize it was happening until after they saw Facebook posts and comments.  Then the calls started coming in.  "I missed it.  How can I help?"  or  "So sorry to hear that, can I send a donation?"  Peters and Fronckowiak are grateful and uncomfortable in equal parts.  When stopping in the News office to thank the Grays, Laurie Greico,  and Pat & Marion Davis along with Joe & Diana Fronckowiak and Thelma Peters,  Becky said "I'd much rather be the one making the donations than getting them."

She was racing around between her first job and her second job but needed to express her appreciation.  It's been hard, she noted, but the support of the community means so much and will go a long way to helping the couple get back on their feet.  And though she'd rather be the giver than the receiver, those who wish to donate can do so by sending donations to the couple at PO Box 81, Halcottsville, NY  12438.
