James Moseman

James Otis Moseman, 77, recently of Fleischmanns, died Dec. 27, 2017 in Rutland, VT, of complications of Parkinson’s disease.

Jim was in the Class of 1960 at Fleischmanns High School. He played on the basketball team and participated in the senior play. L\ater he developed an interest in photography and was proud to have one of his pictures featured on the cover of the December 1990 edition of the Agway “Cooperator.” He had a passion, little realized, for flying. Some of his favorite pictures were aerial photos of his farm.

Having grown up on the family dairy farm, he took to critters large and small. The welltended dairy herd was minded by a succession of beloved dogs, mostly Border Collies. A ferret named Slim was once a household member. In later years, Jim could be found plying his favorite chipmunk with grapes and seeds. Wildlife was oft photographed.

The youngest child of Edgar R. Moseman and Josephine Eignor Moseman, he ran the “Three Oaks Farm” on Moseman Road singlehandedly after his parents’ deaths. He was predeceased by a brother Robert and his sisters Evelyn Moseman and Margaret Haddow Goodwin. He is survived by a sister, Eleanor L. Blish, several nieces, nephews and cousins, and many friends.

His good humor, native kindness and strong work ethic won him many friends in the community. Anyone who wishes to make a memorial gift in Jim’s honor is encouraged to consider a group that serves the community Jim held dear, such as the local fire department or “Catskill Neighbors.”

Family will hold a private memorial in the spring and Jim will become forever a part of the farm he loved.
