Swedish Christmas in Hobart at book village Sunday, Dec. 10

Hobart — People looking to make their holiday more festive don’t have to look any further than The Hobart Book Village. They will hold a variety of events in the upcoming weeks including the Winter Respite Lecture Series at Adam’s Antiquarian Books. It is the 15th lecture of its kind, and will take place on Sunday Dec. 10, at 3 p.m.

Deirdre Larkin will be introducing the Rubin Museum and it’s unique collection. Deirdre is a former Horticulturist Manager at The Metropolitan Museum of Art Cloisters, and is currently completing her training as a docent at the Rubin Museum of Himalayan Art in Manhattan. The lecture will last about an hour and will be followed by refreshments. While this event is open to the public, if you desire a seat you will need to arrive early as seating is limited. In addition to her usual cakes, coffee and tea, Diana will attempt to make Dim Sum, or as referred to in Nepal, MoMos.

Immerse yourself in A Swedish Christmas on Sunday Dec. 17, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Creative Corner Books. Catarina Alstrom, author of “Swedish Christmas in America,” will share the magic of Christmas in Sweden with traditional Swedish treats, drinks, music, and decorations. On top of that, autographed books are available. Head over to 607 Main Street, Hobart Book Village.

If you are looking for some cozy, local places to chow down The Bull and Garland and The Dinner Plate are both open for business. The Bull and Garland is a pub and inn located on 760 Main Street in Hobart. They are open Thursday through Saturday from 4- 11 p.m. and Sunday from 4-9 p.m. The Dinner Plate is located on 645 Main Street in Hobart, and serves great food with a Tavern on the premises. Although they are closed on Mondays, they are open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3-7 p.m., Friday from 3- 9:30 p.m., Saturday from 12- 9:30 p.m., and Sunday from 2-7 p.m.

Just up the road is The Sheep’s Nest, a lovely establishment which carries embellishments for the home, Country French, English Cottage, and Vintage Industrial. It is located on 45 Main Street, Hobart, and is open Thursday thru Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you’re looking for another place to stop by in Hobart, consider going to Second Wind at 284 Main Street, Hobart.

The Fall and Winter hours for Hobart Book Village of the Catskills are from October 10, until Memorial Day (May 26) 2018. They are open Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., including Holiday Mondays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you miss their hours or are too far away, Dennis of Butternut Valley Books is often open 12- 6 p.m. on Thursday & Fridays.
