Carliton Finch

Carliton Arthur Finch, 84, a resident of Palm Harbor, FL since 1998, formerly of Stone Ridge, NY, passed away Saturday, October 21, 2017.

Carl was born in Lexington, NY on Oct. 4, 1933 to the late Harry C. Finch and Mary Belle Van Kleeck Finch. He attended Margaretville Central School. An avid lover of sports, Carl was on the varsity football and basketball teams. An accomplished student, he was salutatorian of the MCS Class of 1953 as well as president of the student council.

Before his military service, Carl married Lillian “Jean” Haynes, high school sweetheart. As a veteran, he served in the Seventh US Army, 97th Signal Battalion, Company B beginning 1954 and was stationed in Boeblingen, Germany.

Carl began employment in 1956 with IBM in Kingston, NY where he worked 35 years until retiring in 1990. In retirement, he became a devoted family genealogist finishing the Haynes research of his then late wife, Lillian Jean Finch. He has published three books on the Haynes and Finch family lines.

A sportsman at heart, for over 40 years Carl spent many cherished weekends relaxing in Haynes Hollow near Margaretville, NY with beloved friends and family hunting, fishing and enjoying the cool, crisp mountain air of his childhood.

In 1998, Carl married Carol Lee Haynes-Ellis of Gaithersburg, MD and removed to Palm Harbor, FL to continue his retirement and new chapter of his life.

He is survived by his second wife, Carol Haynes-Finch; daughter, Debra L. Lemieux of Bremerton, WA; two sons, Carliton H. Finch of Haynes Hollow, NY and Derick G. Finch of Harrisville, RI; three step-children, Jeff (Paula) Rolfs, Connie (Don) Burnham and Becky (Mark) Hertlein; three sisters, Gwendolyn I. Bartles of Palm Harbor, FL, Frances E. Oliver of Margaretville, NY and Elnora H. Sasser of Hillsborough, FL; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Lillian Jean; parents, Harry C. and Mary B. Van Kleeck; and eight brothers and sisters.

Cremation conducted by Curlew Hills FH in Palm Harbor, FL. Memorial service date TBD.
