Gilbert Arlands

Gilbert “Gibby” Arlands, 78, of Margaretville passed away peacefully on October 20 2017 with his family by his side at Regional Hospice and Palliative Care in Danbury, CT.

Gibby, the youngest of five, grew up in the Woodlawn section of the Bronx, where he led an adventurous life, which led him to meeting the love of his life, Karen Fyfe (pre-deceased in 2012). Together they had three children, Douglas, Susan Rossi (pre-deceased in 2009) and Glenn.

Gibby raised his family in Yorktown Heights and for 30 years owned an auto body shop, Car-Care, located in Mount Vernon with his partner Pat Snow.

After selling his business, Gibby and Karen moved up to the Catskills, where they enjoyed living a simpler life. Gibby had a love for the outdoors, was an avid Yankee Fan and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a great story teller and most days you could find him on his deck humming a tune and with a welcoming hello, feeding the animals.

Gibby enjoyed being a part of the community. He was a Commissioner of the Arena Volunteer Fire Department in Margaretville and worked at Belleayre Mountain Ski Center up until he retired.

Gibby leaves behind his two sons, Douglas, his wife. Donna, and their children, Nicholas and Joseph; and Glenn, his wife Sandy, and his granddaughter, Jessica Rossi, as well as many loving relatives and friends.

A luncheon celebration of his life will be held at the Arena Volunteer Fire Department in Margaretville on Saturday, Nov. 11 from 1-4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
