Francis Fairbairn

Francis Fairbairn, age 77, a lifelong resident of Margaretville, passed away on Monday Oct. 30, 2017 at Albany Medical Center in Albany.

"Friskie" as he was known by all, was born on July 17, 1940 at Delhi, the son of Orson Pete and Myrtle Jane (Archibald) Fairbairn.

He graduated from Margaretville Central School in 1959 and went to work for The Delaware County Highway Department where he worked for 45 years.

Friskie married the love of his life Marie Ackerley December 2, 1962 at the New Kingston United Presbyterian Church. Friskie enjoyed life and was a dedicated community person helping anyone that needed help. He was an active member of the Margaretville Fire Dept. where he received a 50 year award for his service to the department and the community. He enjoyed bowling and fishing with his son.

Surviving is his wife of 55 years Marie, daughter Cindy and son-in-law Tim Filupeit, son Scott Fairbairn and daughter in-law Jeana Sanders, grandchildren Kelly Filupeit (friend Al Knobelauch), Erin Filupeit and fiancé Grant Cure, Amy and Zach Blanchette, and greatgrandchildren Laila and Liam Blanchette.

Also surviving are brother Floyd Fairbairn, mother-in-law Nancy Ackerley, sister-in-law Marie A. Fairbairn, sister-in-law and brother-in-laws Barbara and Myron Sanford, Ralph and Diane Ackerley, Tom Ackerley (friend Debra), and Phyllis Ackerley along with many nieces and nephews. Friskie was predeceased by his twin brother Fred, who passed away in February, 2016. Calling hours will take place from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. on Thursday Nov. 2 at the Hynes Funeral Home in Margaretville.

A funeral service will take place Friday Nov. 3 at 11a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Margaretville with the Rev. Donna Leroy and Shirley Davis officiating. Donations in Friskie's memory can be made to the Margaretville Fire Dept. or the United Methodist Church, Margaretville, in his name. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.
