Seasonal menu changes

Founded in August 2014 by Michael and Amelia Hegeman, The Zephyr Restaurant located in Pine Hill focuses on serving the freshest, local sustainable farm to table foods that have been grown naturally in the Catskills.

The name ‘The Zephyr’ came from another business that operated in the same building in the late 1800’s, an historic ice cream and candy shop. In the 1930’s it was ‘The Zephyr General Store.’ When stepping into Zephyr one feels the history immediately, with framed photos of “The Candyman” hanging on the walls, and copies of a 1917 Pine Hill Optic makes one feel it’s place in the history of Pine Hill.

Owners Michael and Amelia Hegeman have a background as chefs, pastry chefs and in catering. They are both also holistic health and cooking coaches.

The menu at Zephyr changes seasonally, as all dishes served are ‘farm to table.’ They serve classic cuisines using local ingredients. Zephyr is open for lunch and dinner Thursday through Monday from 4 to 10 p.m. Brunch is served every Sunday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Zephyr’s lunch menu has a large selection and variety to choose from including; soups, nachos, mussels, calamari, wings, salads, sandwiches and burgers.

The dinner menu has appetizers including; soups, salads, fritters, and mussels. Main dishes include; chicken, pork, chicken pot pie, pasta, duck, steak, fish and a variety of locally sourced meats and vegetables. There are plenty of vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options on the menu to choose from as well. The dessert menu has a large selection to choose from. All desserts are made in house by pastry chef Amelia. Popular items include; the three layer carrot cake, the chocolate lovers layer cake and the banana bread pudding.

Their locally sourced motto doesn’t stop at food, many beverage options are local too with local craft beers like Davidson Brothers pale ale from Glens Falls, Ithaca Flower Power from Ithaca and Hurricane Kitty and Mothers Milk from Keegan Ales located in Kingston. There are all American options like Sam Adams, Stella, and Bud light available.

In addition to the restaurant, The Zephyr Restaurant offers retail items for sale including a selection of local Maple Syrup from Lazy Crazy Acres in Arkville as well as hand crafted loose leaf teas from Traveler’s Tea.

There is no shortage of entertainment at Zephyr. Live music can be heard every Thursday from 7 until 9 p.m. and Sundays for brunch between Noon and 3 p.m. There’s often music on Fridays as well and every Monday is trivia night beginning 7 p.m.

Zephyr is a great place to meet and dine in the Pine Hill community for tourists and locals alike. They are a true ‘mom and pop shop’ in both food quality and overall feel. Zephyr is located at 302 Main Street. For info visit: atasteofthecatskills.com or call 845.254.8024.
