Catskill Carriage offers new service in area

By Jill Ribich

“The Hamptons have their Hampton Jitney. Starting on Friday, Sept. 1, the Catskill Region will have its very own Catskills Carriage,” founder and CEO Gabriel Brodbar told this News reporter. Brodbar is also the Executive Director of the NYU Reynolds Program in Social Entrepreneurship. He has an impressive background of program development in child welfare and housing of families with children in New York City. “To be clear, Catskill Carriage is a for-profit business. But we expect that by increasing the number of visitors to the Catskills that will in turn provide growth in employment, income, and entrepreneurship. My wife, Aimee and I bought a home near Downsville ten years ago and we both have ties to the Catskills going back to our childhoods.” Adding, “We love the Catskills and are truly excited to contribute to the rediscovery and revitalization of Catskills communities.”

The new Catskill Carriage luxury bus service will carry its inaugural customers between New York City and four Catskill communities on Labor Day weekend. After this “soft launch” of the brand new service, it will operate every weekend beginning the summer of 2018. The current route begins picking up passengers at the New York Distilling Company and Barcelona Bar in the city delivering them to stops that include the Blue Horizon Diner in Monticello, The Callicoon Brewing Company in Callicoon, the Catskill Brewery in Livingston Manor and the Prohibition Distillery in Roscoe. Car services UBER and LYFT have arrived in Monticello and will carry passengers to their final destinations. Other car and taxi services are also available.

Sleek Bus to Mountain Region Includes Slice of Pie

The modern high-end buses, built by Volvo, provide strictly first class travel on wheels. In addition to offering soft, highbacked reclining seats with foot rests, the Catskill Carriage fleet will include Wi-Fi, power outlets at every seat, flip-down HD screens, a spacious lavatory, ample luggage compartments, and a complementary slice of Jackie Q’s world famous, 100% natural, farm-to-tummy apple pie for northbound passengers. Hostess service will be provided, available at the push of a button. “And did I mention that you don’t have to go anywhere near the Port Authority”, added Brodbar.

Expanding Service

Catskill Carriage can add as many routes and buses as needed to fulfill the demand for this unique service. Brodbar has gotten calls from people in Margaretville and has looked into service to that area as well as Mt. Tremper, Phonicia and Woodstock. The company has also looked into extending routes into the Hudson Valley. In addition to scheduled routes, Catskill Carriage can provide transportation form NYC to any area of the Catskills for corporate retreats, conventions, family reunions or weddings and currently have an exclusive contract to provide transportation to The Catskill Mountain House wedding venue in Roxbury.

The service will launch on Friday, September 1st from New York City and return on Monday, September 4th. Full seasonal service, with busses running at least every weekend, will begin Summer 2018. Tickets and information are available on the website at catskillcarriage.com.
