RAG to host Lundell/Capps Dance Works Sept. 23

Roxbury — Local choreographer/ dancers Victoria Lundell and David Capps will bring two shows of their lively dance theater work to the Roxbury Arts Center Saturday, Sept. 23 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 24 at 2:00 p.m.

The shows will have humor, pathos and mystery embodied in dance, movement and theatrics, and will also include the work of a varied group of musicians, composers and word artists.

Lundell and Capps are dancer/choreographers with extensive national and international careers who struck up a vibrant collaborative partnership based in the western Catskills five years ago and have since made work together for indoor and outdoor stages and film. These performances at the Roxbury Arts Center will last a jam-packed hour and feature renowned pianist and composer Amir Khosrowpour, writer and poet Anna Moschovakis, and award-winning lighting designer Roderick Murray.

Wild voyage

The performers will premier three pieces. “Rach Opera” is a wild voyage from tranquility to perplexion and slapstick to peaceful composure, with buckets, confetti, ski hats, and plastic objectionables set to a live performance of Rachmaninov Preludes for piano. “A New Work” by Lundell is a poetic societal dream illustrated by a trio of bodies and minds. “At This Moment” is a spontaneous choreographic throw down, with audience input and performance.

Mixed in with the premiers are two repertory pieces. “Short Story with Chairs” is set to guitar music by Leo Brouwer and originally premiered in Roxbury in 2012. “The Oracle” which was originally called “The Oracle of Delhi” where it was premiered in 2016 is mystified myth making pitting two prophesies against each other, or maybe against a light with magical powers.

“The Roxbury Arts Group is thrilled to support this unique dance experience right here in the Catskills” says Jenny Rosenzweig, Executive Director of the Roxbury Arts Group. “In recent years we’ve made a stronger commitment to presenting dance programs at the Arts Center, and we could not be happier to support two local dancers and choreographers who share these goals.”

The performances will be held at the Roxbury Arts Center, 5025 Vega Mountain Road in Roxbury. For tickets and information call 607 326-7908 or visit roxburyartsgroup.org
