Blue Devil boys’ team has strong core

Returning players provide strong base for MCS soccer club

Coach Jeremey Marks will be counting on five returning players to provide a solid core of the 2017 Margaretville boys’ varsity soccer team.

Back for their senior seasons are goalkeeper Tanner Reither, midfielder Nate Plante, forward Sam Tanzer and defender Devin Amundsen. Another key returning player will be junior midfielder Derek Zellner.

Other seniors who Coach Marks will look to for important contributions are Jose Yanes, Zac Clark, Reyes Mejia and Donovon Bullock.

Being counted on to fill voids lost through graduation will be four freshman defenders Diego Sanchez and Maurico Hernandez, midfielder Ivan Herrera and freshman Kevin Flores.

Rounding out the roster are: Billy Miller, Ian Stanton, Casey Shultis, Shawn Teuber, Trevor Ferraro, Kenny Johnson, Jackson Kowatch, Curtis Roberts and Kevin Johnson.

Coach Marks noted that his club lost seven seniors who started and played major minutes and he’s counting on a strong team approach to remain competitive.

“We have a good group of returning seniors returning, led by Tanner Reither, who was one of the best goalies in the area last year. His stability in the goal will be key as our young core gains experience,” he noted.

“We also have a good group of newcomers who are pushing the upper classmen. Our experienced players are providing great leadership to the young kids in practices,” Coach Marks added.

He continued, “Our strengths will be our depth and a good core of leaders in our eight seniors. We also have a talented group who moved up from the modified.”

Coach Marks said his goals include daily improvement, knowing and accepting roles and challenging for the league and section titles.
