Trailways rolling out new local stops

Margaretville locations added
By Joan Lawrence-Bauer

In a Monday afternoon email to Margaretville resident Anne Shea, Pine Hill Trailways announced new pick up and drop off points for Margaretville passengers.

According to Anne Noonan, vice president of Marketing & Traffic for the company, passengers travelling westbound toward Oneonta will be able to board a bus on Route 28 near McIntosh Country Store and Auctions. Passengers headed eastbound toward Kingston, will be able to board on Route 28 near the B&D Rentals/Sensible Car Rental shop.

Noonan said, “These stops will be ‘flag stops’ meaning the bus will only stop if a passenger wants to be discharged or if passenger( s) at the designated area flag the bus down for the driver to stop.”

Noonan went on to add, “We selected these locations because they are in areas which our safety department has inspected and approved the site.”

The announcement eased the minds of locals who grew concerned about the service when the company abruptly halted service at the Margaretville Motel on Route 28.

Margaretville resident Anne Shea lobbied the company to quickly select another spot and sent a list of suggested options for their consideration. Noonan acknowledged Shea’s assistance in her email. “I want to thank you for all the help you’ve provided to us,” said Noonan. “Using the list of businesses you sent me helped us find a stop much more quickly then we might have otherwise.”

Noonan added, “We’ve heard from several of our customers about how important the Margaretville stop is to them, so I’m glad we have a designated stop for our customers to use.” Noonan said that there will not be a ticketing outlet in Margaretville, and the company is working now to reinstate online ticket sales to and from Margaretville.
