Frederick Fisher

Frederick E. Fisher, 85, a resident of Margaretville for more than 20 years, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2017 at the VA home in Oxford.

He was born September 15, 1931 in New York City, the son of Albert and Julia Fisher.

Fred was a devoted husband and father, and was happily married to May Fisher for 64 years.

An influential man who accomplished many things in his life, he was a Korean War Veteran and a recipient of The International Peace Prize Medal 1988. He also was also the recipient of a Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force as a Master Sergeant.

Fred was also a hunter safety instructor for Andes, worked at New York Bell Telephone Company in Manhattan, New York City, and special task force for several years. Before moving to Margaretville, he lived in Colonia, NJ.

Fred is survived by two sons, Fred and John, six grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

He was pre-deceased by his wife, May and his son, Robert John Fisher.

Calling hours will be held from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Aug. 19 at the Hynes Funeral Home, 48 Walnut St., Margaretville, followed by a funeral service with the Rev. Donna LeRoy officiating.

Donations in memory of Fred E. Fisher may be made to the Margaretville Hospital Ambulance Fund.
