Doris Wetmore

Doris Minnie (Sweet) Wetmore, 84, died peacefully Sunday, Aug. 13, 2017, at her home in Stamford where she lived with her daughter Penny.

She was born in Kelly Corners on March 4, 1933 to the late Katie and Ivan Haynes.

She spent most her life in Fleischmanns and surrounding areas. Later in life she also spent many happy years in Florida. She was a fantastic daughter, mother, aunt, grandma, and great grandma. Doris was like a second mom to many others.

Grandma Doris enjoyed baking. Some of her best recipes included homemade cinnamon rolls, hot milk cake, chocolate mayonnaise cake with peanut butter frosting, and apple pie with cinnamon candies. She also enjoyed going for long walks in the rain, collecting dolls, and taking care of her pets. She had a generous, kind heart and a loving soul. Doris spent her life putting her children first and was loved by many.

Doris is survived by her children, Sharon and her husband Loren of Roxbury, Steve and his wife Hope of Kingston, Penny of Stamford, Randy of Jefferson, Eddie and his wife Luann of Orlando, FL, Sueann of Flemington, NJ, and Becky of Grand Gorge. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her mother, father, first born infant son, (little Johnny) and siblings, Margaret, Frances, Richard (Dickie), Freddie, Leonard, and Mickey.

Her life will be celebrated with a remembrance ceremony followed by a barbecue with friends and family at the Roxbury Fire Hall at 53613 State Highway 30 on Saturday. Aug. 26 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one or both of her favorite charities: The Heart of the Catskills Humane Society or the Paralyzed Veterans of America.
