Drug awareness poster contest set

In an effort to support local police, courts, treatment providers and community activists as they address crippling substance abuse issues in the county, the Catskill Mountain News will sponsor a drug awareness poster contest for young people aged eight to 18.

Anyone choosing to enter the contest should create an 8 ½ x 11 piece of artwork on paper or poster board, based on one of two themes: a) telling drug dealers to leave town or b) telling addicts to get help. The name, age, mailing address and phone number or e-mail of each artist must appear on the back of the poster. (The information will not be published.)

Posters may be delivered to the Catskill Mountain News office at 43414 Rt. 28, Arkville, or to the main office at Andes, Margaretville or Roxbury central schools on or before end of day Friday, May 19. Judges will review the submissions and announce the names of the top three entries. The top three entries will be printed in the Catskill Mountain News.

All student artwork will be displayed in storefront windows throughout the community during the month of June and the top three winners will each receive a gift certificate donated by a local business. More information on the contest is available by calling the News at 586-2601 or via email to joan@catskillmountainnews.com.
