Lester Rosa

Lester A. Rosa, 98, of Dry Brook passed away peacefully on February 27th surrounded by all of his children. Lester was born on the family farm in Dry Brook on January 29th 1919 to Albert and Della Mae (Vermilyea) Rosa. He was one of 8 children. As a young man he worked for his Uncle "Bill Hen" (Henry) Rosa in his automotive shop and for the Town of Middletown Highway Department. In 1944 he was appointed a New York State Forest Ranger. He served in that capacity with distinction until he retired in 1974. Lester was the oldest retired NYS Forest Ranger at the time of his passing.

He married Mildred Kittle on November 11, 1945. Lester is survived by his loving wife of 71 years Mildred, his daughter Carol (Bill) Johnson, sons Alan (Deb), Gary (Lori), and Gene (Gayle), and daughters Patti (Joe) Farleigh, and Ann (Ken) Aikens, 15 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sisters Marguerite Fairbarin and Edna Mae Conine and his brother Bob (Marie). He was predecessed by his parents, sister Thelma Scott, and brothers Gordon, Orvil, and Ivan.

Calling hours will be held Saturday March 4th from 10AM to Noon at Hynes Funeral Home in Margaretville with a Masonic service at 11:45. Burial will be at a later date in the Margaretville Cemetery. Donations in Lester's name may be made to the Margaretville Hospital Ambulance Squad or the Arkville Fire Department.
