No injuries in school bus accident
There were no apparent injuries this morning when a car hit the rear end of a stopped school bus on Moran Road, just outside Fleischmanns. State Police, members of both the Fleischmanns and the Arkville Fire Departments and Margaretville Hospital's ambulance all responded to the scene. EMS staff spoke to each of the children who were shaken but uninjured before a replacement bus from the school arrived to transport the kids from the scene.
MCS Bus Driver Beth Smith, who told the News she had never had an accident with a bus, had safely evacuated all of her riders before first responders arrived. Brake failure was blamed when the vehicle following the school bus failed to stop as the bus waited for students to board.
