Lewis Peck

Phoenicia --  An outpouring of sadness and fond remembrance filled social media outlets last week as news of the death of Lewis E. Peck spread through the  community.  Peck, 40 of Rt. 28 Phoenicia died Monday February 6, 2017 as a result of injuries sustained in a logging accident. Lewie was a native and life long resident who was born in Kingston on August 27, 1976 son of Lois Kaufman Peck and the late Amasa Peck. A graduate of Onteora High School, he was a woodsman and logger, who had a keen sense of nature, and could fix most everything. As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed both hunting and fishing. He had been very active with the draft horse community all across the US, however his passion had become working with his daughter Morgan, and the mini horses. He had been a member of both the NY and CT Pulling Ponies and Mini Horse Association. He was a kind-hearted individual with a 'can-do' spirit who loved his family.
Surviving in addition to his Mother Lois, are his fiance Rhonda Hurlbert, daughter Morgan Peck, sister Charlotte Peck of ME, and Uncle Alfred Peck. His in-laws, and several cousins also survive.
A Service to celebrate the life of Lewie was held on Feb. 12th at 2pm at the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home 87 Main St. Phoenicia with the Rev. Ralph Darmstadt as celebrant. Spring interment is planned in the family plot at the Shandaken Rural Cemetery. For those who would like to assist the family, the Lewis Peck Memorial Funds has been set-up at the Key Bank 53 Main St. Phoenicia. You may share a condolence with the family on his Memorial Page at gormleyfuneralhome.com
