High school skiers from Roxbury and Margaretville central schools have raised the bar for competitors in the Delaware League and in Section 4 this year as they careen toward sectional races next month.

Roxbury sophomore Nick Vajtay leads the school’s boys’ varsity squad and leads the pack in individual points in both the league and the section, as does his RCS team. Kevin Davie, an RCS junior, is currently tied for sixth place individually and a contender for medals.

On the girls’ varsity squad, RCS junior Savanah Boyle is tied for eight in league and section and poised to move up with junior teammate Clare McDaniel in hot pursuit. The RCS girls’ team is currently standing in second place in the Delaware League and third place in Section 4.

Margaretville sophomore Victoria Janis is also burning up the slopes this year with third overall in Section 4 as the season progresses.

Janis and McDaniel were both named Delaware League Second Team All-Stars last year and look to be competitive as the season winds down.

Both schools will ski in competition at Plattekill Mountain on February 1 and at Belleayre Mountain on February 6 with races beginning at 3 p.m.

Sectionals are scheduled for February 8 at Belleayre Mountain with Giant Slalom getting under- way at 10 a.m. and Slalom races coming in the afternoon.
