Wilfred Vogler

Wilfred Vogler, 75, of West Hubbell Hill Road, Margaretville died at home with his family by his side on Saturday, Dec. 24, 2016.

He was born Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1941, in Bremerhaven, Germany, son of the late Paul and Katherine Goerbig Vogler.

He immigrated to the United States in 1964 and settled in the New York City metropolitan area. Subsequently he made his home in Pine Hill for 17 years, and Florida before returning to Margaretville.

He served in the merchant marines, and that is where he met the love of his life, Christel Eules. They had traveled the world extensively with the merchant marines and the cruise ship industry. He had been a self-employed highly skilled general contractor, who tended to all aspects of a building project, be it carpentry, plumbing, or electrical. He was naturally mechanically inclined, and taught his trade to numerous other young men. He loved animals, and family pets were a part of their lives. He was proud to keep his property ‘spic and span’ and was a loyal patriot.

Surviving are his wife, Christel Eules Vogler; a son, Mark and his wife, Jamie Bouton Vogler of Halcott Center; a grandson, Landon; a sister, Jutta Mittrowan; a brother, Guenther, and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Guenther Schoenrock.

Services will be held privately at the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home, 87 Main Street, Phoenicia. Inurnment will be in the Halcott Cemetery.
