Nicholas Mitchell

Nicholas G. Mitchell, 90, a resident of New Kingston, went to see his eternal God on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016.

He was born December 31, 1925 in New York City, the son of August and Mary (Hadiaunnou) Mitchell.

Nick was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army Air Force. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in New York City and served as vice chairman of the board of trustees on three Brooklyn hospitals. He was the founder of Air Sea Rescue, which trained young people in naval activities. He operated his Air Sea Rescue business in Fort Lauderdale, FL and Brooklyn. Nick was the proud owner of an ex- Coast Guard cutter named Cartigan, which he bought in 1964.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Catherine Janet Mitchell, a daughter, Mary Mitchell and a son, Nicholas Mitchell Jr.

A funeral mass was celebrated at the Sacred Heart Church in Margaretville on Monday, Nov. 14. Burial followed at the Margaretville Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.
