Local Election Results

Joan Lawrence-Bauer
Analysts will spend decades talking about how Donald Trump's rode the "outsiders" horse to victory in the Presidential Election. But his decisive victory did not demonstrate a "throw the bums out" mindset in local area down-ballot races. Incumbents and incumbent parties dominated. Here are some of the results of interest.

Ulster County voters agreed to move the County Court house out of Kingston and into the Town of Ulster.

Shandaken voters made it a close call in their Library referendum - too close to call right now. Currently, the vote stands at 634 against the increase to 613 for the increase but that may not include absentee votes.

Republicans John Faso and Claudia Tenney both defeated their opponents to hang on to Republican seats in Congress. Faso defeated Zephyr Teachout for his win to replace Republican Chris Gibson. Tenney bested Kim Myers and Martin Babinec to replace Republican Richard Hanna

At the State Level, incumbents Aileen Gunther, Pete Lopez, Frank Skartodos, and Kevin Cahill all kept their seats in the New York State Assembly. Brian Miller, a Republican, was elected in the 101st Assembly District replacing another Republican (Tenney) who left the seat to run for Congress. Miller bested Arlene Feldmeier and Maria Kelso for his win.
State Senators Bill Larkin, John Bonacic, James Seward, Sue Serino and George Amedore all Republicans, all won re-election.
