Ivan Misner

Ivan A. Misner, 77, of Arkville quietly passed away on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016.

He was born on April 2, 1939 in Arkville to Ivan Germond and Laura Belle Misner. He graduated from Margaretville Central School in 1957. On November 5, 1961 in New Kingston, he married the love of his life, Rebecca (Becky) Gray.

Ivan was a very hard worker. He started working for the A&P Tea Company in Margaretville when he was a teenager, eventually becoming a bookkeeper and manager, and traveling to different A&P stores. He retired after 30 years of service, then followed his passion of carpentry. At first he worked for other companies, but eventually formed his own business. He was well known for his skills and built many of the log homes in the area.

Ivan had many joys. He enjoyed square dancing, his carpentry work, bowling (although there is a rumor of a bowling ball being thrown in a certain local large body of water), his many cats, and watching every single Dallas Cowboys’ game. His true love was golfing. Being an avid golfer, he earned trophies for holes in one and even got his name in Golf Digest. He also loved to laugh and a good joke. He loved his children and his grandchildren, being very proud of all that they accomplished.

He is survived by Becky, his loving wife of 55 years; children, Karen Bramley (John Hubbell) of Margaretville and Allen Misner of Arkville; his five grandchildren, Jeremy Bramley of Charlotte, NC, Mellisa Misner of Arkville, Nathan and Vanessa Bramley of Margaretville, and Nicole Misner of Arkville; and a sister, Dorothy Haggerty of Kingston. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, cousins and good friends.

He was predeceased by a sister, Shirley Pereira.

Calling hours were held at the Hynes Funeral Home in Margaretville from noon until 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28. Immediately following, friends and relatives joined the family for a committal service at the Sanford Cemetery. A reception followed at the Margaretville Fire Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be sent in memory of Ivan Misner to Heart of the Catskills Humane Society, PO Box 88, State Hwy 10, Delhi NY 13753 or Catskill Area Hospice, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta NY 13820.
