Bud Eckert Service Saturday

New Kingston native passed away Wednesday

Bud N. Eckert of New Kingston passed away peacefully in his sleep at home in Walden on Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016.

Bud was born on October 20, 1930, in his family home in Margaretville. He was the son of the late Harry and Florence Eckert of Margaretville. Bud was married to Alice Eckert for 58 years. She passed away on July 12, 2015.

He was a Korean War Veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Tarawa and the USS Wasp from 1950 to 1954. Bud was honorably discharged and then worked as an operating engineer as a member of Local 825.

Bud enjoyed building and racing cars with his brothers in his younger years, tinkering in his “barn”, making maple syrup, feeding the birds, spending time at Oakley’s about 360 days of the year, and eating “Nanna’s cookies”. He and Alice moved into their retirement home in New Kingston in 1992.

Bud is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Tammy Eckert Sr. of Walden;  a daughter, Debra Eckert of Marlboro; grandchildren, Thomas Eckert Jr. and Amy Ramm of Walden, William Eckert of Sioux City, IA, Christopher Eckert of Marlboro and

Alicia Eckert of New York; great-grandchildren, Cadee, Cynthia and Evelyn Eckert and Landon Ramm, all of Walden, and Liam, Zoey, and Gwyn Eckert of Sioux City, IA. Bud is also survived by his brothers, Harry Eckert of Walden and Orvin Eckert of Newburgh. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on the family on Saturday, Aug. 20 at 1 p.m. prior to a memorial service at 2 p.m. at the Hynes Funeral Home, 48 Walnut Street, Margaretville.
