Raymond Higgins

Raymond P. Higgins, 82, of Roxbury, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.

Ray was born February 25, 1934, to Ella Post DeMonie and Paul Higgins.

During his lifetime Ray was employed as a Principal Case Worker through the N.Y.S. Division of Youth at the South Kortright Boy’s School in South Kortright. Following his retirement from that facility, Ray went to work as a delivery driver for Lutz Oil Company in Roxbury.

Ray was a member of the Roxbury Volunteer Fire Department for many years and served as secretary for 26 years. He was also a former member of the Gilboa Masonic Lodge and its former past master.

During his lifetime, Ray was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. His family brought him great joy and pride, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren who were a shining light in his life. Ray loved family events, scenic car excursions with his wife, family camping trips, nature, and riding his motorcycle. With his quick wit, he loved telling humorous stories of the past of which he knew many.

Surviving Ray is his beloved wife of 63 years, Lu; daughters, Pamela Zoll (Don), Melanie Little (Bob); grandchildren, Michelle and Shakim Williams of Canal Winchester, OH, Lindsay Ballard (James Gagnon) of Roxbury, Donald R. Zoll (Terriann ) of New Berlin and Allison Kari of Saugerties and great grand children, Octavia and Hutson Zoll, Shakim and Jasmine Williams and Logan Renee Ballard. Also surviving is Stephen Rinehart of Harpersfield who was a special friend.

Ray was predeceased by a daughter, Deborah Ann Higgins on October 6, 1953.

A service to celebrate Ray’s life will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2016, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Roxbury.

Please feel free to wear casual attire. Fond and humorous remembrances to share are encouraged.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Roxbury Methodist Church General Fund.

The Miller Funeral Home in Roxbury is assisting the family.
