Mary Davies

Mary Adelia (Sanford) Davies, 92, of The Villages, Florida received her wings on May 30, 2016 with her loving family at her side.

She was born October 22, 1923 in Roxbury, the daughter of the late Myron and Lucy (Dougherty) Sanford.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas; her first husband, Odell Kelly, two great grandchildren and a brother-inlaw and a son-in-law.

Mary was the loving mother of six children; Linda Aley, Ginger Jacobs (Robin), Emerson Kelly (Annie), Collin Kelly (Sharon), Bryan Kelly (Melanie), Betsy Joseph (Lorne) and a step-daughter, Patti TeNyenhuis (Mark). She is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, two great-great grandsons; brothers, George Sanford (Doris), John Sanford (Carol), Myron Sanford (Barbara); sisters, Betty Schebesta (Russell), Marie (Sanford) Stachnik, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary spent her early life in New Kingston, helping on the family farm. She was the salutatorian at Margaretville Central School in 1941 where she participated in basketball and softball. She was the Class B New York State bowling champion in 1982. She was a member of the Oldsmobile Business Management Club in Albany and worked as an accountant for several businesses in the Albany area. Mary spent most of her life in New York, moving to North Carolina when her husband retired. Mary and her husband moved to The Villages in 2011.

Mary was very active in the First Presbyterian Church of Wildwood. She participated in numerous activities in the Village of Tamarind Grove.

A graveside service was held at National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL on June 16 along with a celebration of life at the First Presbyterian Church of Wildwood.

A service to celebrate Mary’s life will be held on Friday, July 1 at the New Kingston Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. with fellowship to follow at the Margaretville Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of New Kingston of the hospice of your choice.
