Loretta Keator

Loretta Doris Keator, 84, passed away at her home in Sidney on June 14, 2016 with her family at her side.

She was born on December 29, 1931, the daughter of John and Viena (Moseman) Rappleyea in Little Westkill. She was an employee of the New York Telephone Company in Stamford when she met and married Frederick Linn Keator in 1953. Mr. Keator was drafted into the U.S. Army and served his time in Colorado Springs, CO where his wife joined him. While there, a daughter, Deborah Lynne was born.

Surviving are a daughter, Glenda (Mark) Roberts and a son, Bradford (Lynn) Keator along with grandchildren, Rebeka, Sarah, Isaiah (Ericka), and Ezekiel (Jessica) Keator, Derek Ramp and Karla (Dale) Thomas and three great grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister-inlaw, Edna Rappleyea and a brother, Millard Rappleyea. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Deborah Lynne; her husband, Frederick Linn and a brother, Elwin Rappleyea.

Loretta was a long time member of the New Kingston Valley Grange. She was an accomplished seamstress, an avid gardener and enjoyed playing Bingo. Her lifelong travels with her husband to Florida, Missouri, Maine, Hawaii, Alaska, and many points in between, were a great source of pleasure. She found companionship in her dog, Toki and her cat, Sadie. Later in life, Loretta struggled with multiple health issues.

A funeral service will be held at the Hynes Funeral Home in Margaretville at noon on Friday, June 17 with Reverend Richard Dykstra officiating. C

Calling hours will be held from 10 a.m. until service time at noon at the funeral home. A gathering with a light meal will be announced at the service.

Donations in her memory may be made to Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care.
