Jimmy DiGiacomo Auction a hit as Christmas Project fund-raiser

By Jill Ribich
A festive crowd of nearly 70 hearty souls braved the cold and wind Sunday evening to attend the annual Jimmy DiGiacomo Auction and Dinner Dance at the La Cabana Restaurant in Fleischmanns.
Proceeds from the auction benefit the Community Christmas Project, a grass-roots organization that provides food, clothing and holiday cheer to those in need throughout the Town of Middletown. For many years the Community Christmas Project has brought comfort and cheer to families and senior citizens in Middletown.  It is their goal that not one child in the area goes without warm mittens, brightly wrapped toys and a complete turkey dinner at Christmas.  Volunteers work year-round to raise money, purchase gifts and food, wrap and deliver the items, and seek out the people to whom these items will be distributed. "

“This has been a difficult financial year for many, and the need is greater than ever” said Marilyn Pitetti, one of the local organizers of the auction and dance. “The local merchants and citizens of Middletown have stepped up once again to donate auction items ranging from a stainless steel gas range to dinner for two at local restaurants. Their generosity is always greatly appreciated,” added Chris Johnson, this year’s auction coordinator.
Music for the dance was provided by Wendy Nief and NightLife and the auctioneers were Dorothy Maffei and Jennifer Slauson.
