The Andes Roundtable will hear a talk by retired biology professor Bill Piervincenzi, entitled “Your Heart and You.” He describes it as “the story of how we came to know what we do about heart disease, and what exciting new progress in our knowledge and practices we are most likely to see in the future.” The talk will be held at 7 p.m. at The Hunting Tavern on Main Street, Andes.

Anyone interested in enriching the lives of residents at Mountainside Residential Care Center or patients at Margaretville Hospital is invited to a Volunteer Signup Open House between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Visitors will get an orientation tour and can complete the required paperwork for registration. Those interested in volunteering should bring an updated immunization record.

A program titled “Leeches and Laudanum: Medicine in Early New York,” will be held at 2 p.m. at the Margaretville Presbyterian Church Hall on Orchard Street. Living History Re-enactor Stuart Lehman will discuss medicine as it was practiced from the Revolutionary War to the Civil War by doctors, midwives and the everyday housewife. Sponsored by Historical Society of the Town of Middletown.
