Winston S. Bailey, 85, a resident of Fleischmanns, died Saturday April 13, 2013 at Rhinebeck.
He was born July 23, 1927 at Grenada, West Indies, the son of Joseph and Alice (Nash) Bailey.
In Grenada he was a accomplished cyclist and had learned the shoemaker trade from his father.
Winston was a resident of New York since the early 1950s. He was employed at George Washington School in Manhattan and worked in the maintenance department. He also was a building superintendent in Manhattan. Upon retirement he became a family-care provider in Broome County. He was a member of the Jehovah Witness Congregation of Arkville.
Winston enjoyed fine food, music and dancing. His favorite sport was cricket. He will be remembered as always being well-dressed often called “debonair.”
Winston is survived by his wife, Phyllis; a son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Deidy Bailey of Coram; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Ronald Jenkins of Margaretville, and five grandchildren, Nicole, Melody, Alyza, Aja and Angelica. He also leaves behind his beloved Miniature Schnauzer dog, Gulliver.
Winston was predeceased by his first wife, Pia, and a daughter, Colleen Jenkins.
Relatives and friends will celebrate his life at the Hynes Funeral Home in Margaretville on Saturday, April 20 from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m.
Following the service a reception will be held at the Jenkins family home in Margaretville.
