Whet Paint / Inside Out at RAG Sept. 4
Roxbury — Whet Paint, The Roxbury Arts Group’s (RAG) popular annual gallery fund-raiser returns on Saturday, Sept. 4 with several exciting innovations, but it’s still the best opportunity to buy art by the area’s most talented artists at reasonable prices.
Participating artists will have had nearly a week to create a work of art, and more than ever they are being encouraged to paint “plein air,” in the open air in real time.
Each artist will assign a market value to the submitted piece, and potential buyers at the traditional silent auction will have an opportunity to pre-empt the bidding, by offering the fair market price and claiming the painting. There will be a special collectors’ champagne preview at 2:30 p.m. for those who want a first chance to bid or buy before the doors open to the public at 3 p.m.
Among the artists who are participating this year are Nina Jordan, Jody Primoff, Alix Travis, Ellen Wong, Peter Yamaoka, Gerda Van Leeuwen, Helene Manzo, John Hopkins, Doug Jamieson, Nat Thomas, and many others.
RAG is offering a “People’s Choice” award of $100 to the painting selected by the attendees and there will be artist door prizes from Golden Artists Paints of Edmeston.
There will be a gala reception concurrent with the silent auction from 3-5 p.m. Admission is $15. The collectors’ preview champagne reception begins at 2:30 p.m. Reservations are necessary for this preview. Call 607 326-7908. The cost is $25.
The Roxbury Arts Center is located at 5025 Vega Mountain Road, Roxbury.
