Virginia (Ginny) McCumber, 94, a life-long resident of Margaretville, died in Margaretville on Saturday, July 26, 2014.
She was born August 3, 1919 in Margaretville, the daughter of Casper and Myra (Sanford) Bellows.
Ginny was married to Frederick C. McCumber on February 9, 1944 in Margaretville. Fred died on April 29, 2001.
Virginia graduated from Margaretville High School in 1937. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, also in Margaretville.
Ginny was very active in the community, volunteering at the hospital thrift shop, baking for family, friends, and community kids, and assisting with bake sales. She was a quilter and enjoyed knitting and crocheting, using her talents to make hats for school children. Ginny was a member of the White’s Dairy bowling team and won the ladies’ golf championship at the Kass Inn golf course. She traveled to Myrtle Beach, SC for 29 years.
She worked in the bookkeeping department of Margaretville Hospital and at Bussy’s General Store in Margaretville and also as a receptionist for Dr. Humberto Abrahao.
Virginia is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Steve Roser; a son, Robert McCumber; grandchildren, Eric and Chris Roser, and Kaley and Aleska McCumber, and a great-granddaughter, Molly Roser.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014 at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville. The Rev. L. Lawrence Dunlap will officiate.
Calling hours will be held prior to the service on Saturday from 9 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m.
Committal will be at the old Margaretville Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Virginia McCumber may be made to the Margaretville Fire Department or Catskill Area Hospice.
