Virginia Joy Lavender, 86, of Albuquerque, NM, formerly of Andes, died Friday, March 22, 2012.
Virginia was born April 16, 1925 in Brooklyn, the daughter of Jacob and Gertrude (Sparkes) Davis and raised in Newfoundland, Canada. She returned to Brooklyn in 1946.
Virginia worked as a telephone operator in the ’40s with the “girls.” She got married in 1948 and raised three boys, Robert, Gary, and Brian.
She moved to Andes in 1974 after her husband passed away. She moved to Albuquerque, NM in June 2007 and made a home and many friends at Manzano Del Sol. She loved spending time in the garden observing nature. She loved animals, most of all dogs.
She married Francis Joseph Lavender on September 25, 1948 in Brooklyn. He preceded her in death on April 7, 1973.
Her survivors include two sons, Gary (Cheryl) Lavender of Albuquerque, NM, and Brian (Debra) Lavender of Rhinebeck; daughter-in-law, Karen Lavender of Rohnert Park, CA; sister, Ruth North of Andes, and brother, Rodrick Davis of Newfoundland, Canada; six grandchildren, Kerri (Vernon) Hubbard, Michael (Leslie) Lavender, Aaron (Amy) Lavender, Daniel Lavender, Deanna Lavender and Damian Lavender; four great-grandchildren, Justin, Bryce, Hailey and new great-grandson born March 22 to Michael and Leslie; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Frank in 1973; a son, Robert in 2005 and a sister, Vera.
A memorial celebration of Virginia’s life was held at Manzano Del Sol Chapel, 5301 Roma NE on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at 2:00 p.m.
Burial will be at Long Island National Cemetery.
