Two great musical groups "headline" Sidewalk Fest

Roxbury — The jam is on July 3 with two popular local groups — Polish Moses and the Horseshoe Lounge Playboys — appearing in Roxbury during the annual Sidewalk Festival.  With vintage baseball, plenty of good eats, a streetful of craft and tag sales, Roxbury is the perfect summer Saturday destination for the whole family on July 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The All-American fun begins at 10 a.m. with a Main Street parade, then the music also kicks off at 11 a.m., with Polish Moses, a Brooklyn-bred singing and songwriting trio of guitarists Joe Chmielowski and Don Ferber, with arrangements, harmony and accompaniment by jazz pianist JoAnn Chmielowski. You’ll hear the American musical melting pot of rock, folk, blues, reggae, jazz, and country styles in their alternative folk style. With creative, soulful harmonies  woven throughout their compositions, and a twist of insanity created by life, Polish Moses creates a musical experience everyone can hang their hat on.
At 1 p.m., you’ll hear Imprint Radio’s “Best Live Performance of 2009” band, the Horseshoe Lounge Playboys, who are back in Roxbury with their unique repertoire of originals blended with material unearthed from musical “backwoods” stretching from Appalachia to Memphis. They create powerful, sometimes mournful vocals backed by guitar, mandolin, fiddle, acoustic bass and percussion. All five members of this band sing and compose. Their sold-out 2008 album “One Horse Town” was recently reissued and they have a new live CD “Bootleg.” Don’t miss this busy group: they tour across the country from Laramie to Baltimore each year and this is your chance to hear them again…
The whole family will enjoy an authentic vintage base ball game with ice cream cones, burgers and dogs in hand, cheering the veteran Roxbury Nine Baseball team (circa 1898-style base ball) as they meet the “all-stars” from their Delaware County vintage rivals, the Bovina Dairymen and the Fleischmanns Mountain Athletic Club. Kids will have their own activities including hands-on fun, face painting and a clown.
Come and enjoy all the beauty and summer glory of Roxbury’s Kirkside Park and its lovely historic Main Street this Saturday July 3, all decked out with sales, crafts, music, food and fun. For more information on the Sidewalk Festival, contact Jenn Schuman at or call 607 326-4754.
