Tunament raises funds for graduates

The 10th annual Tunament, a fund-raising golf tournament, will be held on Friday, July 30 at Shephard Hills Golf Course in Roxbury. The Tunament is held in memory of Margaretville native Bill “Tuna” Sanford. An avid golfer and strong supporter of high school sports, Bill passed away unexpectedly in 2001 at the age of 43. His friends decided to establish a scholarship fund with awards going to Margaretville Central School seniors who exhibit strong character.
Since the first Tunament in 2001, the event has raised $7,500 in scholarship money. Recipients include: Jerrod Hubbell, 2002; Clint Cure and Mitch Mead, 2003; Kate Rapin, 2004; Ros Moore, 2005; Kevin Sweeney, 2006; Cassie Merwin, 2007; Jose Martinez, 2008 and Brandi Balcom, 2009.
