Traditional sewing work will be shown at market
Halcottsville — Kathy Grassi will demonstrate the various traditional sewing techniques she uses to create her handmade clothing and accessories on Saturday, Oct. 3 from 10 a.m.-noon at the Pakatakan Farmers’ Market at the Round Barn in Halcottsville.
“I’m old-fashioned. I make bread the traditional way, by hand. I knit the traditional way, with ‘two sticks and a string,’” Kathy explained.
She uses simple patterns and styles in the clothing she sews and lets the fabric make its statement. She sews for all ages: vests, dresses, jumpers, skirts, pants, overalls, ties and sunbonnets. She knits sweaters, mittens and hats.
Her clothing can be purchased over the phone or at the Catskill Artisans’ Guild in Margaretville. This week’s demonstration is sponsored by the Catskill Artisans’ Guild. For an event schedule for the rest of the season visit: pfmarket.org.
The Pakatakan Farmers’ Market is held rain or shine. The market is located at the historic Round Barn on Route 30 near the Delaware County hamlet of Halcottsville.
